They won't fit. I have 14's on mine and there is less than 10mm clearance on the rear guards.
Beside that, 17" rims don't come narrow enough, and even if they did, noone manufactures tyres either narrow enough or with a small enough sidewall. _________________ Just 'cause it's got Wabbit ears doesn't mean it's all cute & cuddly... |

Well if you want to try, go for it.
17's aren't legal, no engineer worth more than a pinch of shit will want to pass it because they'll know what damage it'll do & that if something DOES go pear-shaped (reading some of your other posts, id say "will happen") then their insurance won't cover them.
Don't waste your time. _________________ Just 'cause it's got Wabbit ears doesn't mean it's all cute & cuddly... |

I like you enthusiasm, but seriously mate think about it... A small, NO, TINY car with big fuckoff wheels on it. Do you actually think it will look good AND be practical/drivable? What good is having all that work done when you cant even enjoy it?
IMO a nice set of 14's, possibly 15's would look better on a 'Boy and be easier to do. Thats not to say that fitting bigger wheels isn't a trouble as it is.
You also need to consider weight that will be added.
All things taken into account, i wouldn't even consider bothering to think about it... _________________

I've got a set of 14x6's that i was gonna fit to my mightyboy but from test fitting just the mags i've found out it's gonna be a lot of work.
To fit big, wide mags you'll be looking at this:
Front and rear inner guards will need to be re-shaped, suspension travel needs to be sacrificed so they don't rub (there goes comfort and drivability) and then you're gonna have to find tyres that fit and look good. (I've gotta get tyres from germany to make it about the same rolling diameter as stock for my 14's)
So.
I doubt you'll find 17's in anything under 7-9 inch wide
(I know for fact you'll never be able to modify the inner guards enough to accomodate them - I'll be pushing it with the 14x6's!.. The inner guard is close enough to the engine as it is)
Rolling diameter will kill you too, and add tyres on top of that.
I wouldn't bother..
Get some 13's or maybe 14's if you want a bit of a challenge and you'll have a good looking cheap run around car.
And i'm pretty sure these mags are 14's or 15's.

geez, u guys no how to cut a bloke down...
the inner arches off a hilux should do it for the back, i may even see if i can modify the front ones to fit, i will also make room for the air bag suspension. ill have to research an engine once ive worked out how much i will be reducing the engine bay. a rotary should fit fine with some work.
if i cant find a dodgey engineer to pass it then ill take it off the road n put it in shows. a turbo rotary in a car that size shold win hearts. if thats the case, ill get another n keep it road worthy. _________________ cheers.

Ceej, now aren't we supposed to respect what other MB owners do, even if we don't like it? That's what I learned on TAMON
But yes I'm afraid that, in these circumstances, I have to agree with you mate.... esp re: finding a dodgey engineer!!!! |

Of coarse we wouldn't think you were crazy, un-original yes, but a hilux is better built for that sort of thing. A MightyBoy just isn't designed to have serious mods done to it. It isn't just a case of, "Oh yeah, i just do this and that" cause everything you do means you need to alter something else. Putting a bag setup in there would require a cage of some description to hold the lot together. You do understand that unlike a Hilux, a MightyBoy has NO chassis. None what so ever. Its just a shell with wheels and an engine bolted to it basically.
You just have to face the facts that the mods that you do are required to be in the restraints of the poor little thing. Anything serious would require extensive work.
And I'm sorry if calling you an idiot hurt, i was implying the statement regarding the "dodgy engineer", however, you haven't made a very good start to making us think that you aren't just some idiot. Hell with the post about reversing into someone till something broke, then stopping to look at the damage and getting upset because you broke something, but then being happy cause you broke something on their car doesn't fill me with much hope for you. _________________

ok point well taken. yes stupid comment but the engineer, it probably wasnt the best first impression but im not messin with u. i have planned to put a chasis under it form day 1. my original idea was to widen the car by 2 feet. which may still happen. take a look at these photos i have just found. mine will be worked to this extent when i have had my way with it.
there are more of this car if u would like me to post them _________________ cheers.

haha the funny is that the wheels on that camo machine are still only 15's max...
just so u guys know, in wagga there is a place called mild to wild customs, they have somehow managed to get what i beleive is a hatch to sit dead low on wheels bigger then 20"...i just cant surely remember what the car was, but it was a tiny thing, and reminded me of a mightyboy.
maybe there is hope... |

i say fuckin go for it ay mate
if you do it i'll scream
yea do it mate it'll be awesome, you WILL have to tub the thing to the extent where you'll have enough tray left to fit a paperback book in-between the wheel arches, but if thats what you want to do, i say DO IT |

Just buy a suzuki sierra if that is the look you want. Stick with 15's if you want the look with the lowest profiles you can get. 14's look right.
P.s no i am not back wish i was still lurking but i see my old car is number #2 in google images so it has been seen by a lot of people now and remembered just how much i loved that car best mighty boy ever.
I will be back been playing with a fiero GT a mid engined plastic/fiberglass bodied car now i thought i had found the cult here check out these guys at fiero.nl for a cult car. replica lambos ferraris etc.
and a Baur bmw but the love of the mighty boy will drag me back here as i have more ideas and now more skills to put to use just need a shell but no room or time for now and want to do a caravan next just reminiscing and keeping my brain inspired for hopefully another build.
My car is sold i have to say it as i still get phone calls asking. It has also been smashed from what i hear but i ended up working with new owners girlfriend he had realistic plans and i know he has the skill so hopefully this car come back better than ever. |
